Originally from Brazil and based in New York City since 2013, A. S. Vieira is a novelist and screenwriter whose work explores the complexities of human relationships, identity, desire, forgiveness, and redemption. Drawing inspiration from the city's cultural diversity and the contradictions of human nature, he creates emotionally layered, character-driven stories that challenge conventions and explore the choices that define us.
His literary work spans psychological drama, mystery, and supernatural horror. His published books include Permanent Ink, a psychological drama exploring identity, family, and the devastating consequences of a murder accusation; Haunting Symphonies: Tales from the Umbral, a collection of supernatural stories examining the relationship between the living and the spiritual world; and Subway Ride, a horror novella in which 352 strangers find themselves trapped in a mysterious seaside town that should not exist.
Across his fiction, Vieira explores both the ordinary and the extraordinary, often placing deeply human characters in circumstances that challenge their understanding of themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. Whether examining the consequences of a violent crime or the mysteries of the afterlife, his stories combine suspense with emotional depth and a fascination with the unknown.
His screenwriting portfolio encompasses drama, psychological thrillers, and horror, with a particular emphasis on morally complex characters and unconventional narratives. His work has received recognition from international screenwriting competitions, including the Austin Film Festival, Final Draft's Big Break, and the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards.
Among his current screenwriting projects is The Venus Trilogy, a collection of three standalone feature screenplays: PALMA, A Tale of Two Mothers, and The Singer. Each explores the lives of complex, unapologetic women navigating love, identity, motherhood, personal freedom, and the consequences of their choices. Though distinct in setting and narrative, the three films share a commitment to portraying women beyond traditional expectations, embracing their contradictions, vulnerabilities, and strength.
Committed to bringing distinctive stories to audiences, Vieira embraces independent publishing as a means of connecting directly with readers while pursuing collaborations with filmmakers, producers, literary representatives, and creative partners who share his passion for emotionally resonant, thought-provoking storytelling.
“There’s nothing more fascinating to me than understanding the psychology of my characters before I even begin writing their stories. They often become like old friends, and sometimes it’s incredibly difficult to let them go.
When someone asks me, ‘Do you really think this character would behave that way?’ I often respond with another question: ‘Why do some people do things that others would never even consider?’
The truth is, we don’t always know. We’re not those people. We don’t know what lies within their souls. And the same is true of my characters. My job isn’t necessarily to justify their choices, but to understand what makes them possible.”
Screenwriting recognized by international festivals and competitions.
